Double Oh Romper!

Romper: Express // Earrings: Baublebar // Shoes: Loui et Cie @ Head Over Heals

Facebook went cray a couple of weeks ago with [an epic] pic of Sean Connery in his days of 007 rocking a short romper. And so the question to all males around the world was “would you rock that?” And why not?!

Who doesn’t love a good romp…er… Focus! Clear your mind of those dirty thoughts. I am obsessed with the cold shoulder trend. So it clearly doesn’t get any better to wear a romper with a cold shoulder. Can you say showstopper? I wore this dress to someone’s graduation and it truly is the perfect summer look. Adding a touch of blush with Baublebar’s piñata tassel earrings  perfectly complemented this powder blue ensemble.

So in the heat of the summer stay cool and on trend with a cute cold shoulder anything, or a romper. If you can get both you lucked out because this look is only available online in petite.

I heart you for reading and until the next post,

XOXO

Low Romance

Blouse and Shorts: Aria // Earrings: Baublebar // Necklace: Timewarp // Booties: Head Over Heels (sale)

Happy Mardi Gras!

I had all the ingredients to make this post: green, purple, and gold. In this case the gold was more like a canary yellow, but still you get the point. And always the psychic trendsetter that I would like to think I am, you may want to mark my words when I tell you that all variations of yellow will be quite haute this spring. Write it down and go buy yourself that yellow (or mustard) blazer, dress, or top.

Romantic blouses such as this one which have a little, or in other cases a lot, of ruffles are on trend. You will see quite of few in floral prints in the upcoming weeks.

And last but not least, I absolutely love this vintage coin necklace from Time Warp boutique on Government St., in Baton Rouge.

Until the next post!

V Day

Top: Topshop (Nordstrom) // Denim: Blank NYC (Nordstrom Rack)// Earrings: Baublebar

Hay girl (or boy) hay it’s Valentines Day!

In past years I have griped of no one wearing red or pinks on this day but this year I find myself being a little hypocritical. Let me explain. We all understand the over commercialization of the holidays. We get it. But it certainly gives bloggers, social media coordinators, and communications professionals something to post.

As I was shopping for others yesterday I found myself telling those helping me find something “I don’t want anything too big, or too expensive. I honestly think this day is a little silly.” I think morally we should always strive (lord knows I am NOT perfect and that my attitude is not always 100) to think of others, offer help when needed, and give without any expectations of the other person giving you something in return. That’s the way it should be. Now, do not get me wrong because the flip slide to this story is that I strongly believe in establishing boundaries and respect among friends. And you know sometimes people tend to over care, over share, and over step. Word to the wise. #stayinyourlane

BUT…. that is not what this post is about. Last year the off the shoulder trend dominated the summer and it is fascinating how strongly it has transgressed through the winter/fall. This winter, still, it is all about the shoulders. Whether it is off the shoulder or a cold shoulder, it is undeniable that this style is a dominant one right now.

I love everything about this topshop top. The style, the powder pink color, and the trumpet sleeves. The opposite of skinny jeans are these high waisted bell bottom jeans, which if worn with a high enough heel elongates your body. And I am obsessed with the tassel trend in jewelry. I find myself in the constant hunt for tassel necklaces and earrings. These hot pink ones just give me life.

Anyways, I have said too much. On the real and for realzies my wish for you is to have a wonderful day filled with love and laughter. And hey, a gift or two here and there would not be so bad, eh?

Until the next post, CIAO CIAO loves. Happy Valentines Day!

XOXO,

DDC

P.S. How beautiful was Beyoncé’s performance at the Grammy’s!!! She was a byzantine beauty and a goddess in her own right. And Blue Ivy stole my heart!!!

Tulle+Tiara+Chokolat Creme

One of the most rewarding things blogging provides me is the opportunity to meet so many talented, driven, ambitious, and forward thinking people. And it doesn’t hurt that all of them are beautiful inside and out.

My involvement with Baton Rouge Fashion week for two years in a row placed new faces and labels on my radar. My favorite look of this year’s show was the t-shirt line chokolat creme. Their 2016 runway look is what I am recreating on this post. I love the message of empowerment and strength represented in this brand. And every queen needs a queen bee necklace. This set is from Olivia Palermo’s collab with Baublebar, and it is everything as is she.

Until the next post!

Off the Shoulder off the Hook

imageimageimageimageimageimageimageimage

Dress: Express // Sandals: Head Over Heals// Bag: Rebecca Minkoff // Earrings: Baublebar

I know it’s been a while. For obvious, and not so obvious, reasons July happened to be a very rough month. But we rise stronger and better from all those rough bumps and curveballs that this thing called life (RIP Prince) throws at us.

Now, if you do not own this summer an off the shoulder top or dress, to you I say in the words of Kimmy Schmidt: “where the H-E- double hockey sticks have you been?!” At least she has a better excuse (mole woman held hostage in a bunker by an unimaginably unattractive Jon Ham). When I tell you after not finding this denim off the shoulder beaut in our Mall of Louisiana, I immediately placed a call and an interstate dash to Tanger Mall to find this amazing dress. It’s denim people!! Denim!!!

Gladiator style sandals like these (on sale at Head Over Heals) make a consistent appearance every summer.

I hope you are having an amazingly fun hot summer. I am extremely grateful for those of you who continue to come back to Foster the Fashion for more posts.

I heart y’all!!!

XOXO,

DDC

A floppy hat fall

Don’t you just love the Fall? The weather changes, people tend to be in better moods (generally), and you can layer and wear those cute knee high boots boxed somewhere in your closet. It truly is the most wonderful time of the year. I will waste no time and tell you my predictions for hot fall trends: fringe, floppy hats, culotte pants, and covers that simulate ponchos.

I was waiting to publish this post hoping that it could go along with yesterday’s story about local fashion bloggers in LSU’s The Daily Reveille. Thinking back, not knowing the exact publishing date of this article was the best thing.

The lovely Brittany Hagoort interviewed me three weeks ago and ever since then I was stressing about the when, the how, and the what. When would the story come out, how will it look, and what would people think once they read the article. Everyday I walked by the stands worrying about this soon to be not yet existing article. Yesterday’s front page headline was “They see me rolling,” which happens to be one of my favorite tracks (I also imagine President Barry O rolling out of the White House to this song..just FYI) And later that morning a tweet from The Daily Reveille took me by surprise. I played it cool, went to class and on my way back picked up a copy of the paper. Only to pick up ten more copies from two different stands later that day. And there I was. It’s an amazing feeling to see your story on paper, it really is. No press release to announce that I have blog, and come January 2016 it will be four years!!! Time flies when you are having fun.

So now I get to freak out and say in my Oprah voice “I’m in the REVEILLEEEEEEEEE!!! You get a paper, you get a paper, and you get a paper!” You can read the full story here.

Special thanks go out to Brittany Hagoort for doing such an amazing job creating this article quoting a few of my favorite fashion ladies in the area, and Nicholas Martino for being the photographer who saved the day! And my readers, wherever you are and whoever you are THANK YOU!!!

Until the next post!

Dress: June by June Ambrose (HSN) / Shoes: DSW/ Necklace c/o: La Clé / Clutch: The Ant Hill by Anthony Ryan

Well folks Spring is a done deal yet I find myself everyday scouring through HSN (The Home Shopping Network) obsessing over the Spring and Fall collection of my favorite stylist June Ambrose. She is a fashion QUEEN in my book. I am pretty sure Jay Z (HOVA!) has her on speed dial, and she is responsible for styling Missy Elliot’s super fly video back in the early 2k’s.

Anyone on HSN can really sell me anything but June can sell me all her clothes. She uses her slogan “styled by design,” and catchy phrases like “glamoflage,” meaning using glamorous design tricks to accentuate your curves and make you look thinner. Yes Please! And I know I am not the only one stalking her collection as most of the small sizes in her spring collection are pretty much gone. Yes Spring! Because honestly her pieces can be worn year round. As shown above. I LOVE this scuba dress. It was sold out but sometimes if you pray hard enough to the fashion gods they listen and grant you a wish. The black and white panels and the overlapping floral motifs are perfection to the upteenth degree.

And speaking of HSN can we give a round of applause to the multi fashion millionaire Jessica Simpson for  successfully selling her new fall fashion collection DRUNK on air yesterday. Now that’s what I call multi tasking while having fun, and making money honey! You can watch this cash train wreck (btw loved that movie! Bill Hader swoon!I watched it twice!) here by clicking on the video that shows the live presentation.

In this post I am collaborating with La Clé . I found this awesome jewelry company on instagram. They repurpose old keys and coat them in different colors. Each color has a different meaning. For example, I chose gold which stands for worthy and valuable (umm…Yes I am!). As the color of your key fades you are said to have absorbed the energy of those words that represent your key’s color. Additionally, if you post your “naked key” on any social media platform using the tag #nakedkey” La Clé will make make a donation to the charity of your choice. How awesome is that!

If you want a free key just go to www.shoplacle.com and click on “Free Key” Share with your friends, they get $5.00 off their purchase and you will get a free key when your friends shop!  Awesomesauce! FYI- The Oxford Dictionary has put awesomesauce (meaning “extremely good;excellent”) in the dictionary so it is a legit word!

I was honestly not expecting to write this much so if you made it to this part congratulations! You win at allowing me to ramble in my thoughts! Gotta love you for that!

Until the next post!

XOXO!

OBRFW Big Night Was Red Hot!

IMG_4196 IMG_4201 IMG_4205 IMG_4222 IMG_4232 IMG_4233 IMG_4243 IMG_4250 IMG_4193 IMG_4171 IMG_4168 IMG_4151 IMG_4147IMG_4253 IMG_4259 IMG_4263 IMG_4271 IMG_4143 IMG_0372 IMG_0373IMG_0367 IMG_0365 IMG_0363

Oneofakind Baton Rouge Fashion Week’s “Big Night” did not disappoint. The mere fact that the event was completely sold out was a great indicator of how well the Baton Rouge community supports, welcomes, and embraces the fashion industry.

Igor Matkovic was our host for the night. Matkovic, who is also the host of his own television program called “Style Savvy,” presented the 2015 Fashion Icon Award to the beautiful and talented model, actress and radio show personality Ms. Chenese Lewis.

Collections from brands such as Little Rock’s “Miss Smitty” featuring fun pieces for young girls, and Cupani Fashion by Lacie Cupani who presented amazing crocheted pieces were among the many that made their mark on this “Big Night.” Local designers such as Peyton Simms presented her line of printed t-shirts called “Perfectly Taylored,” and LSU School of Textile and Apparel Merchandising students also debuted their collections.

It was a great and amazing night. I wore red, had fun, ate amazing food from our local star Chef John Folse, and as my favorite TV personality Wendy Williams says: I was “dipping it and doing it” in the afterparty.

This was an amazing experience that I embraced with open arms and what did I get from it? I met beautiful people and got to hang with friends that I don’t get to see that often. I am looking forward to next year and to be so lucky as to be offered the opportunity to participate in Oneofakind Baton Rouge Fashion Week again I will be there in a heart beat. Brandon Campbell did an amazing job in coordinating an event of this magnitude and he had an amazing team of young ladies that helped him put this event together. SO BIG KUDOS to them as well!!! Their work does not go unnoticed.

Enjoy the pictures!

Dress: Odelyne // Belt: Express // Shoes: Jessica Simpson

All these festivals in the last couple of months have really inspired the bohemian side of me to come out. From crochet tops and denim shorts to lace dresses, I am all over the place wanting all these pieces.

I first saw this dress on Ashe from Dramatis Personae (I feel like Khaleesi saying this out loud) blog, and she looked absolutely stunning. After a compliment on twitter and a few words with the lovely Kelsi from My Style Smith! the impossible happened, I had the dress in pink!

It’s a lot of material but wearing it as Ashe wore it, with a belt, and these pumps took the dress to a whole different level. I wore it for a graduation and I thought I was overdressed yet I received compliments on it. So not a bad move. The best part is that you can also wear it with sandals and still look fabulous.

From the print to the material this Odelyne dress does not disappoint.

Until the next post!

XOXO!

Print on Print experiment

IMG_1997IMG_2500IMG_2502IMG_2499IMG_2503IMG_2506

Top: Peter Pilotto x Target // Skirt: Nordstrom // Shoes: Vince Camuto// Watch: Michael Kors

I can’t tell you how long I have been wanting to do a print on print look but I am always so scared of looking crazy when I step out of the house. So voila! Here it is! I’ve thought in the past to mix polka dots with stripes but by the time I make my mind to put the look together what I had in mind sells out, or it is no longer relevant. I bought this skirt from Nordstrom with this project in mind, and because it was fourteen bucks. Hello!!! Initially I had no clue what I was to pair this skirt with. Enter the Peter Pilotto collection for Target.

I am so obsessed with the Peter Pilotto collection for Target. The prints are so vivid and the colors compliment each other so well. He also came out with a dress that addressed my problem; a print on print dress. It is a “no worries because you are on trend” dress. Snap your fingers twice here! It was difficult (as usual) to leave Target with just one thing.

Hope this look gives you the strength to be bold and try something new. It’s scary I know (not my look or maybe it is?) but if you have any doubts hit me up! That’s what I am here for. Oh! And the best part about doing print on print is that you don’t have to over accessorize because you already have so much going on.

Until the next post!!

XOXO!
