Baton Rouge Fashion Week Year 5

Well it’s a wrap for Year 5 of Baton Rouge Fashion Week and I am happy to say that it’s Big night was a big success. Hosted by the beautiful and talented Chelsea LeBlanc from WAFB,   and the equally talented and dapper Gerron Jordan from NBC 33, the night was filled with witty banter and unbelievable high fashion.

Designs included a whimsical vision of haute couture as visualized by the twelve year old (YES! you read that right…twelve) Alexandra Bujan, a sexy mod vibe by Just Joe, social messages on IME’s t-shirt line, dreamy lace creations by Altrage by Kelby Bell, and vintage with a modern take from Your Mother’s Closet.

There were several precious moments during the show. A two year old model in the making stole people’s hearts as she placed one leg in front of the other, hands on hips, and a face that meant business. She was there to give the people what they wanted and the crowd went wild. I must admit that I got a little emotional, and there were several proud momma judge moments when I saw several of the models walk down the runway. Some of these young men and ladies have been doing this show for several years now and when you see them grow up in front of your eyes, it just tugs at your heart strings. There was also a lot of genuine gratitude too for the opportunity of participating in a fashion show.

It was a very special night. Congratulations to Brandon Campbell and his incredible talented and hardworking team for bringing this vision to life in the Capitol City.

Until the next post.

XOXO,

This week: OBRFW 3

obrfw_bignightobrfw_bignight_back

It is surreal how much I feel time slipping through my hands (btw great start to a future Mariah Carey song, dontcha think? I heart you Mimi!). In all honesty it seems like just the other day, I alongside a group of beautiful and talented ladies served as judges for the selection of models for Oneofakind Baton Rouge Fashion week season 3.

Today, OBRFW 3 is rolling onto its second day showcasing BARE, a sexy take on fashion that introduces an array of edgy, exotic, looks for your eyes to feast on. Tickets for tonight are sold out but if you want to “dip it and do it,” like my fave talk show host Wendy Williams does in the club, you can still get tickets for “The Big Night” here. “The Big Night” is when all the fashion kids come out and play, and “Yaaasss honey Yaassss,” I will be there to say “How you doing?”

OBRFW Big Night Was Red Hot!

Oneofakind Baton Rouge Fashion Week’s “Big Night” did not disappoint. The mere fact that the event was completely sold out was a great indicator of how well the Baton Rouge community supports, welcomes, and embraces the fashion industry.

Igor Matkovic was our host for the night. Matkovic, who is also the host of his own television program called “Style Savvy,” presented the 2015 Fashion Icon Award to the beautiful and talented model, actress and radio show personality Ms. Chenese Lewis.

Collections from brands such as Little Rock’s “Miss Smitty” featuring fun pieces for young girls, and Cupani Fashion by Lacie Cupani who presented amazing crocheted pieces were among the many that made their mark on this “Big Night.” Local designers such as Peyton Simms presented her line of printed t-shirts called “Perfectly Taylored,” and LSU School of Textile and Apparel Merchandising students also debuted their collections.

It was a great and amazing night. I wore red, had fun, ate amazing food from our local star Chef John Folse, and as my favorite TV personality Wendy Williams says: I was “dipping it and doing it” in the afterparty.

This was an amazing experience that I embraced with open arms and what did I get from it? I met beautiful people and got to hang with friends that I don’t get to see that often. I am looking forward to next year and to be so lucky as to be offered the opportunity to participate in Oneofakind Baton Rouge Fashion Week again I will be there in a heart beat. Brandon Campbell did an amazing job in coordinating an event of this magnitude and he had an amazing team of young ladies that helped him put this event together. SO BIG KUDOS to them as well!!! Their work does not go unnoticed.

Enjoy the pictures!

OBRFW Bare Fashion Show

Day 3 of Oneofakind Baton Rouge fashion week consisted of fresh faced models, no make up involved, hence the name of the show was simply “BARE.” The night’s host was the incredibly talented Ms. Chenese Lewis who was recognized the following night on OBRFW’s “Big Night” with the Fashion Icon Award.

Local boutiques of the likes of JuJu’s Boutique, The impeccable pig, as well as fashion labels like iMe by Brandon Campbell, and Cupani Fashions  by Lacie Cupani made their mark on the runway. Fringe tops, crochet sweaters, muted nude tones, and lace tops were the dominant trends on this night celebrating “true beauty and nature.”

Until the next post!

OBRFW Model Search Casting Call

IMG_0061 IMG_0060 IMG_0049 IMG_0059IMG_0028IMG_0030IMG_0065From left to right: Leslie Presnall from Southern Flair Blog, Ebony Warren from Classy Quties Social Club, Faith Laureles, Elle Marie from Elle Marie Brand, and me!

Last Friday January 30th and Saturday January 31st hundreds answered the call for OBRFW’s 2015 model search. Beautiful people came from places as far as Tennessee to strut their stuff at the Louisiana State Capitol Museum in downtown Baton Rouge.

I sat as a judge alongside five other fabulous trend setting ladies in the Baton Rouge community. One of them being a fellow Baton Rouge fashion blogger, Leslie from Southern Flair Blog, whom I have know for some time now. Leslie served as a judge last year so it was such a great experience to sit with her this year.

But let me tell you, not only was it fun to serve as a judge it was also tough at times. Everyone I saw walk down our “runway” had something very unique and special about them. Confidence was key and rocking that walk counted!

Wishing best of luck to all the models! And I look forward to seeing some of their faces on OBRFW‘s big night on February 28th!

Until the next post!
