Blush + Biggie

Moto Jacket: Loft //  T-shirt: Spencer’s // Denim: Express // Sneakers: Aldo

I took these pics a couple of weeks back and I debated when to publish them. My answer arrived when I learned that this past weekend, March 9th, marked the 21 year anniversary of Biggie’s death. I watched “Notorious,” and never did I imagine that I would leave the theater in tears. Not that I didn’t know how it would end but still. Recently I’ve seen documentaries featuring his mother, Puffy, Jay Z, and Faith and of course you get a first hand account of the man Biggie was. But the craziest take away of this story is how young he was. This man was twenty four years old and he lived as big and as colorful a life as one could ever imagine.

On a much lighter and brighter note (there is no perfect way to transition from a tribute…but here goes) we are six days away from Spring 2108. Our weather is much cooler than one would expect which makes me think that we may pause before we put away all our winter clothes, cuz it’s chilly. One of my favorite jackets is a moto jacket, especially if it’s in a pastel tone. I am also rocking a lot of denim jackets, whether they are fit or boyfriend. Love each style. And I don’t want to (but I am) over emphasize the biggest trend that you will see this spring- sneakers! Any style, and shape available. With or sans platform, studded, perforated, metallic, you name it. Whatever style you choose you will not fail. These faux fur blush sneakers are the most adorable things I’ve owned. I am also obviously obsessed with graphic tees and if they include the face of an iconic figure even better.

Until the next post.

Evil Eye

Dress and faux fur vest: Aria (n/a) // Boots: Aldo // Earrings: Aldo

One of my favorite symbols, or amulets, is the evil eye. If you watch TRHNJ you will notice most of the ladies wearing the evil eye. And taking it way back to the beginnings of the TRHOC franchise it was that infamous evil eye hat that Tamra wore to ward off Vicky. But I digress as usual.

Growing up in the Caribbean you are surrounded by spiritual tales and mysticism. We call giving someone the evil eye “hacer Mal de Ojo.” I wear it, like many do, for protection. I also love wearing the hamsa, which is the hand of God. The hamsa is more middle eastern, and the evil eye has origins in Ancient Greece, much like my dress that has a decorative greek step pattern (which trust me I’ve sat through research lectures on this pattern because it’s that historically important) vase and the figure of a greek god.

I promise this is the last winter look with my OTK’s, Ok? It does show the versatility of the pair and how much bang you can get for your dolla dolla bills.

Until the next time,

XOXO

LBD + Puffy

Dress: Tie Sleeve Ponte Shift Dress from Express // Boots: Aldo // Jewelry: Own

I can’t write Puffy and not think about Diddy, or “Brother Love.” Puffy just needs to accept he will always be Puffy, or Diddy in our eyes.

At any rate, this was my second look for the Christmas Party Season (now gone). On this particular day I had 4 parties to attend (not bragging), I only made it to 3. I found this dress at Express, and after rewatching seasons 1 through 7 of the RHNYC you learn that wearing black is downtown chic in NYC. All of that to say that if you are unsure of what to wear you can never go wrong with choosing the classic LBD for any special occasion.

As far as my shoe game goes my goal was to pair each look with these boots from Aldo. I already had some Vince Camuto OTK boots but they did not have the platform to up my look. So I jingled all the way with these OTKs.

I hope your holidays were very Merry and Bright! And have a very, very, very happy and prosperous 2018!!!

XOXO,

Bey Day

Dress: Topshop from Nordstrom //Shoes: Head Over Heals // Jewelry: Dillard’s

I’ve been wanting to do an ode to Queen B ever since Lemonade dropped last year. It took some serious cojones to drop such a heavy visual album like that. And when you think about the body of work she has created all you can do is bow down to a true queen. And then 4:44 drops and I can’t even deal! I mean….LEGACY, LEGACY, LEGACY.

So when one of my co-workers gifted me this bat (which I know what you are thinking, it’s an odd gift but when it comes to gifts I welcome them all) all I had to do was find the dress to lemonade the heck out of a post. Obvi that the dress is not Cavalli like in the video but it is the chicest brand around, Topshop.

I keep telling you guys that I have some sort of fashion ESP when it comes to predicting colors and trends so write this down when I tell you that mustard will be a pretty big deal this fall. Gah’on, take notes.

At any rate I know it’s a sort of a two for one special on September 4th but time is of the essence (cliche; sorry I ain’t sorry).

Happy Bey Day!

Until the next post,

XOXO

Double Oh Romper!

Romper: Express // Earrings: Baublebar // Shoes: Loui et Cie @ Head Over Heals

Facebook went cray a couple of weeks ago with [an epic] pic of Sean Connery in his days of 007 rocking a short romper. And so the question to all males around the world was “would you rock that?” And why not?!

Who doesn’t love a good romp…er… Focus! Clear your mind of those dirty thoughts. I am obsessed with the cold shoulder trend. So it clearly doesn’t get any better to wear a romper with a cold shoulder. Can you say showstopper? I wore this dress to someone’s graduation and it truly is the perfect summer look. Adding a touch of blush with Baublebar’s piñata tassel earrings  perfectly complemented this powder blue ensemble.

So in the heat of the summer stay cool and on trend with a cute cold shoulder anything, or a romper. If you can get both you lucked out because this look is only available online in petite.

I heart you for reading and until the next post,

XOXO

Low Romance

Blouse and Shorts: Aria // Earrings: Baublebar // Necklace: Timewarp // Booties: Head Over Heels (sale)

Happy Mardi Gras!

I had all the ingredients to make this post: green, purple, and gold. In this case the gold was more like a canary yellow, but still you get the point. And always the psychic trendsetter that I would like to think I am, you may want to mark my words when I tell you that all variations of yellow will be quite haute this spring. Write it down and go buy yourself that yellow (or mustard) blazer, dress, or top.

Romantic blouses such as this one which have a little, or in other cases a lot, of ruffles are on trend. You will see quite of few in floral prints in the upcoming weeks.

And last but not least, I absolutely love this vintage coin necklace from Time Warp boutique on Government St., in Baton Rouge.

Until the next post!

XOXO,

DDC

LBD

Dress: Likely from Aria Boutique // Chocker: Dillard’s // Shoes: SJP from Nordstrom Rack // Clutch: The ANTHILL by Anthony Ryan

You cannot own enough classic black dresses, or little black dresses (LBD’s). Celebrities of the likes of Jennifer Aniston made black their goto red carpet color. She manages to look stylistically different while rocking black every time. Genius! #TeamJennifer all the way. Although it’s really sad what the other two are going through.. but that’s a whole different story.

Bell sleeves and trumpet sleeves are really hot RIGHT NOW, give it six more weeks (the groundhog saw it’s shadow yesterday, right?) and maybe this will not be the case. I love a good bell sleeve. Although, it is a tad bit Morticia like (ummm she also loved her extremely tight black dresses) they are just so fun.

These Sarah Jessica Parker shoes have their own story. I honestly willed these into my life. I got them for a steal, no no no no better than a steal they were almost and practically free. The minute SJP launched her shoe collection at Nordstrom I knew it was going to be something special. They really became the hottest selling shoe moderately priced at $350 and up. Hey! That’s Carrie, and she is worth it. That and her long standing career, and her name. These are called Fawn heel pumps and they are sold at Bloomie’s, Nordstrom has limited styles too.

Can I tell you that on my first trip to Chicago SJP was at the Nordstrom on Michigan Ave. doing a meet and greet and signing shoe boxes and I missed her because I was on the opposite end of Michigan Ave! Ugh! I could have just kicked myself in the … you know where. So needless to say I have a strong connection with my silver SJP shoes.

Well, February has rolled in and I have a lot more goodies up my (bell) sleeves for you all.

I love you for reading and please come back!

XOXO,

DDC.

Coat: H&M// Dress: Express// Jewelry: Baublebar//Boots: Wendy Williams for HSN

Happy 2017!
The year is in full throttle and I am quite optimistic that you and I will have a much better year. So chin chin, or clink clink, or “salud,” or “salut!”

So… it’s been a while and I’ve concluded (mostly to make myself feel a lot better about not posting more often) that I would much rather have quality posts than to frequently post. At what cost? One could make the argument for gaining more followers. Sure, I would love that! Yet I’d rather pour all my efforts and resources on a well planned look than to skim through posts unimpressed and lacking “ooooohs,” or “ahhhhhhs.”

Here in southern Louisiana we are in this in between weather (roll in your transitioning pieces… booties booties booties rocking everywhere) where we get, occasionally, some really cold weekends and several days later bask in the glory of seventy degree weather. It’s pretty great. Having said that I can go from wearing a light sweater to an amazing faux fur coat within a week. Case in point. This particular look was shot three weeks ago when we had that 28 degree weekend. New York had nothing on us. Disclaimer: NYC IS EVERYTHING!

Needless to say that over the knee boots are a staple each winter. These are from the Wendy Williams collection at HSN, “how you booting?” And lets not forget that a choker is all you need to accompany any look from t-shirts to dresses and remain on trend. Let’s face it, it’s all about the choker!

Until the next post you guys! I heart you for you reading and visiting Foster the Fashion!

XOXO,

Off the Shoulder off the Hook

imageimageimageimageimageimageimageimage

Dress: Express // Sandals: Head Over Heals// Bag: Rebecca Minkoff // Earrings: Baublebar

I know it’s been a while. For obvious, and not so obvious, reasons July happened to be a very rough month. But we rise stronger and better from all those rough bumps and curveballs that this thing called life (RIP Prince) throws at us.

Now, if you do not own this summer an off the shoulder top or dress, to you I say in the words of Kimmy Schmidt: “where the H-E- double hockey sticks have you been?!” At least she has a better excuse (mole woman held hostage in a bunker by an unimaginably unattractive Jon Ham). When I tell you after not finding this denim off the shoulder beaut in our Mall of Louisiana, I immediately placed a call and an interstate dash to Tanger Mall to find this amazing dress. It’s denim people!! Denim!!!

Gladiator style sandals like these (on sale at Head Over Heals) make a consistent appearance every summer.

I hope you are having an amazingly fun hot summer. I am extremely grateful for those of you who continue to come back to Foster the Fashion for more posts.

I heart y’all!!!

XOXO,

DDC

This post is dedicated to Miriam “Mimi” Woodrich. She was an amazing mother, teacher, daughter, sister, wife, and friend. I heart you Mir Mir!

You had me at gumbo!

IMG_6350IMG_6358IMG_6339IMG_6359IMG_6373

Shirt c/o: You Had Me at Gumbo, Leggings: Aria Boutique (old), Shoes: Carrson, Steve Madden

There is a brand new t-shirt line coming from the bayou, and nothing is more Louisiana than gumbo. And in case you were wondering (I know you are not..but it’s ok) my favorite spots for gumbo in Baton Rouge are: Chimes and Roux 61.

You Had Me at Gumbo is a product of love for all things creative and emblematic of our beautiful state. Arielle Brown, the visionary creative behind the brand, shared with Foster the Fashion that:

“I just love being creative and doing things that challenge me. This business and my music do both for me. I hope to continue designing shirts that are more modern takes on Louisiana gumbo themes as festival season comes, and summer, and all things life! I like to wear t-shirts that make a statement of some kind, or draw the eye to it, so that is my goal with You Had Me at Gumbo. ”

Arielle, a “Ragin Cajun” Lafayette native, was more than kind to let me pick my favorite design from her amazing collection of tees, and of course I could not help but to choose her “file myself” tee. Allow me to explain why in the next sentence. I personally challenge you to listen to the song “I’m feeling myself,” by Nicky and Queen B (aka Bey) and not find yourself doing one of the following: (a) feeling yourself, (b) constantly hitting repeat, (c) or breaking into your own karaoke session with no concern whatsoever of who’s watching you. I challenge you.

So please check out You Had Me At Gumbo online, and follow her on all her social media platforms. I need to add one more thing, these shirts are so soft and comfortable to wear it’s pretty amazing.

XOXO,

DC
