Bowling in Style for Autism

April is Autism Awareness month and the Elle Marie Brand will host its second annual “Bowling in Style for Autism” on Saturday, April 23rd, at Circle Bowl. Proceeds from this event will benefit the McMains Children’s Developmental Center. Last year’s event was great success, and this year is shaping up to be even better.

I met Elle Marie about two years ago, and the minute you have a conversation with Elle you’re absolutely captivated not only by her inner, and outer, beauty, but by all that she does in the Baton Rouge community. She works harder than anyone I know, she is driven, and is completely committed to everything in her grasp. What a lady!

She shared with Foster the Fashion that:

“The ElleMarie Brand is committed to positive community impact. We invite Bowlers and non-bowlers to come out and support a great cause, Bowling in Style for Autism. This fundraising event will help raise awareness for Autism.”

There are over 200,000 documented cases of autism in the U.S. along, and to date there is no cure for it, only treatment. Autism affects children and adults, and impairs communication and social interaction. So what are you waiting for? If you can’t go, donate. If you are free on Saturday the 23rd then I encourage you to have fun and bowl for a good cause. Purchase your tickets, or donate here.

Until the next time!

You had me at gumbo!

Shirt c/o: You Had Me at Gumbo, Leggings: Aria Boutique (old), Shoes: Carrson, Steve Madden

There is a brand new t-shirt line coming from the bayou, and nothing is more Louisiana than gumbo. And in case you were wondering (I know you are not..but it’s ok) my favorite spots for gumbo in Baton Rouge are: Chimes and Roux 61.

You Had Me at Gumbo is a product of love for all things creative and emblematic of our beautiful state. Arielle Brown, the visionary creative behind the brand, shared with Foster the Fashion that:

“I just love being creative and doing things that challenge me. This business and my music do both for me. I hope to continue designing shirts that are more modern takes on Louisiana gumbo themes as festival season comes, and summer, and all things life! I like to wear t-shirts that make a statement of some kind, or draw the eye to it, so that is my goal with You Had Me at Gumbo. ”

Arielle, a “Ragin Cajun” Lafayette native, was more than kind to let me pick my favorite design from her amazing collection of tees, and of course I could not help but to choose her “file myself” tee. Allow me to explain why in the next sentence. I personally challenge you to listen to the song “I’m feeling myself,” by Nicky and Queen B (aka Bey) and not find yourself doing one of the following: (a) feeling yourself, (b) constantly hitting repeat, (c) or breaking into your own karaoke session with no concern whatsoever of who’s watching you. I challenge you.

So please check out You Had Me At Gumbo online, and follow her on all her social media platforms. I need to add one more thing, these shirts are so soft and comfortable to wear it’s pretty amazing.

This week: OBRFW 3

It is surreal how much I feel time slipping through my hands (btw great start to a future Mariah Carey song, dontcha think? I heart you Mimi!). In all honesty it seems like just the other day, I alongside a group of beautiful and talented ladies served as judges for the selection of models for Oneofakind Baton Rouge Fashion week season 3.

Today, OBRFW 3 is rolling onto its second day showcasing BARE, a sexy take on fashion that introduces an array of edgy, exotic, looks for your eyes to feast on. Tickets for tonight are sold out but if you want to “dip it and do it,” like my fave talk show host Wendy Williams does in the club, you can still get tickets for “The Big Night” here. “The Big Night” is when all the fashion kids come out and play, and “Yaaasss honey Yaassss,” I will be there to say “How you doing?”

Top: Express (Old)/ Skirt: The Scar Collection / Rings: c/o JoJo Rings / Earrings: Geranium Earrings from Baublebar / Clutch: The Ant Hill.

Happy Valentines Day! Or Galentines Day!

There is nothing lovelier than a nice ballroom gown skirt. It’s such a stunning fashion statement. The minute you see it on someone else you can’t help but gasp in awe and admiration. At least I did when I saw it on Bonnie Michelle, designer and creator of lovely pieces from her Scar Collection.

But what I really want to talk about today are my rings courtesy of Jordan Dudden founder and creator of JoJo Rings. JoJo Rings are made from 100% recycled keys. Founded in 2015, Dudden started her creative empire while  attending Syracuse University in my favorite state with my favorite city, New York. Behind every key there is a good deed, as some of the profits go to nonprofit organizations in the New York area. So if you love feel good jewelry that makes a fashionable statement please check them out here. I love my gold tone round key ring!!

I hope that you have a beautiful day and that not only this day but EVERY DAY is filled with love!!

Top 5 Mardi Gras Ball Gown Picks

Adolfo Sanchez, Red Criss Cross dress, Bluefly, $115.00
ABS, Cold Shoulder Jersey Gown, Saks Off 5th, $111.00-$149.00
ABS, Cutout Sheath Gown, Saks Off 5th, $127.99
Adrianna Papell, Draped Illusion Top Gown, Saks Off 5th, $119.99
Adrianna Papell, Sequined Mermaid Gown, Saks Off 5th, $129.99 – Only size 10 left!!

The Mardi Gras season is upon us, there is King Cake available for sale pretty much everywhere, and as much as I would like to be posting a pic of me with a mardi gras outfit and mask (come back in a week) I thought to be of service to those of you who land on my page for mardi gras ball gown ideas.

In an effort to blog smarter and give those searching what they want I decided to make it easier for you to get some ideas of what to wear for this upcoming Mardi Gras 2016 season.

My top 5 picks for ball gowns are all under $150.00 for those of you who are on a budget and do not wish to spend a lot of money on a gown that may be revisited in a year or two, if ever at all. Let’s just keep it real. If the styles are not particularly up your alley I made a conscious effort to pick colors that are: on trend, still hot for the winter season, and were all seen on the awards red carpet… muy importante! Take notes.

I found myself searching for gowns recently when I was invited to a Debutante ball. I actually purchased the rose gold sequined mermaid dress by Adrianna Papell (the last dress shown). Her dresses are available in all major department stores and Saks Off 5th has honestly the best prices on her dresses. If you want to spend a little more she has amazing sequined beauties.

I really hope this helps you in your search to look like the belle of the ball. I went to Endymion about four years ago and I was a little shocked about the fact that people get dressed up to pull coolers alongside their beautiful gowns but it was SO MUCH FUN!

So be ready to have people spill DRANKS on you and possibly step on your gown because everyone is TURNT UP!!!

Have fun!!

BRFW3 Model Search

Baton Rouge Fashion Week returns to Baton Rouge for a third year, thus calling this comeback season 3. It’s visionary force and creator, Brandon Campbell, plans to outshine previous years by fusing a diverse mix of fashion concepts. Campbell consistently fosters an inclusive event that showcases and features local, national, and even international talent when it comes to designers and models.

And speaking of models, on Friday January 22nd and Saturday January 23rd (see below for times and details) Baton Rouge Fashion Week is having a model search. I am returning as a Judge for my second year and cannot wait to see all the aspiring models that will walk the catwalk, werk it, and most importantly OWN IT ! Confidence is key.

drybar grand opening

The grand opening of drybar in Perkins Rowe, one store down from Kendra Scott if you are coming from the parking lot or garage and not from the Barnes and Noble, this past Friday December 18th gave me an acute case of “eyegasm.”

High attention to detail was paid to the decoration of this locale. There was a pop of yellow everywhere you turned, from the stylists to the small end tables in the entrance and outside, to the card holders in the shape of a blow-dryer attachment piece (GENIUS).

The invitation read “BYOH” (Bring Your Own Hair) and that I did. Although I had my hair styled earlier that day this was an event not to be missed. Drybar‘s philosophy is quite simple “No Cuts. No Color. Just Blowouts!” Founder Alli Webb and her team of experts started this concept in 2008, seven years later and 43 drybar locations fully operational establish this business as a well thought out idea.

IMG_2125 IMG_2127 IMG_2129 IMG_2130 IMG_2131 IMG_2132With the most delectable menu in town, blowout styles include: Straight Up, Manhattan, Cosmo, Mai Tai, Cosmo-Tai, Dirty Martini, and Southern Comfort. And did I mention that these styles are only $40! Prices vary depending on styles not mentioned and membership packages offered.  They also sell their own line of styling products and styling tools (all yellow of course).

My experience was a delight. Jordan, my stylist for the day, gave me tons of insightful information on drybar’s products and services as well as styling tips to use when styling my hair. And he was so much fun to talk to. Loved him!

You can simply walk in, book an appointment for a blowout online  or by calling (877) 379-2279.

Until the next post!

A floppy hat fall

IMG_5822 IMG_5820IMG_5823 IMG_5831 IMG_5839IMG_5849 IMG_5864

Top: Macy’s // Pants: Express // Necklace: Stella and Dot // Hat: Leith from Nordstrom //Shoes: Isola from Head Over Heals

Don’t you just love the Fall? The weather changes, people tend to be in better moods (generally), and you can layer and wear those cute knee high boots boxed somewhere in your closet. It truly is the most wonderful time of the year. I will waste no time and tell you my predictions for hot fall trends: fringe, floppy hats, culotte pants, and covers that simulate ponchos.

I was waiting to publish this post hoping that it could go along with yesterday’s story about local fashion bloggers in LSU’s The Daily Reveille. Thinking back, not knowing the exact publishing date of this article was the best thing.

The lovely Brittany Hagoort interviewed me three weeks ago and ever since then I was stressing about the when, the how, and the what. When would the story come out, how will it look, and what would people think once they read the article. Everyday I walked by the stands worrying about this soon to be not yet existing article. Yesterday’s front page headline was “They see me rolling,” which happens to be one of my favorite tracks (I also imagine President Barry O rolling out of the White House to this song..just FYI) And later that morning a tweet from The Daily Reveille took me by surprise. I played it cool, went to class and on my way back picked up a copy of the paper. Only to pick up ten more copies from two different stands later that day. And there I was. It’s an amazing feeling to see your story on paper, it really is. No press release to announce that I have blog, and come January 2016 it will be four years!!! Time flies when you are having fun.

So now I get to freak out and say in my Oprah voice “I’m in the REVEILLEEEEEEEEE!!! You get a paper, you get a paper, and you get a paper!” You can read the full story here.

Special thanks go out to Brittany Hagoort for doing such an amazing job creating this article quoting a few of my favorite fashion ladies in the area, and Nicholas Martino for being the photographer who saved the day! And my readers, wherever you are and whoever you are THANK YOU!!!

Until the next post!

Rally at The Rack

IMG_1717IMG_1715 IMG_1712 IMG_1714IMG_1718 Nordstrom Rack will officially open its doors to the public tomorrow, October 1st at 9:00 a.m., just off the Mall of Louisiana exit in Baton Rouge. And the much anticipated “Rally to the Rack” is on!

There will be music, breakfast treats, and giveaways to celebrate the grand opening of Nordstrom Rack in Baton Rouge. They will have a traditional raffle in which 30 lucky customers will have the opportunity to win $100 nordstrom gift card, and one lucky customer will win a $1,000 shopping spree!! Need I say more?? Plus the first 1,000 customers to make a purchase will receive a complimentary Nordstrom Rack tote as a gift.

This store will be a total game changer in the Baton Rouge community offering popular and luxurious brands at 30%-70% off regular retail price. Hellerrrrrrr!!! No brainer! I already visited the store and it’s pretty amazing. Honestly, I did not know where to start. I had a plan of what I wanted to scope and when I walked in I completely forgot.

So be there or be square!

Until the next post,
